Business Administration

UBUS - 300 Principles of Financial Accounting – 3 units  

This course introduces concepts, terminology and responsibilities of financial management and accounting in the for-profit/nonprofit sector. Prior accounting or finance training is not required.   

UBUS - 301 Leadership Principles – 3 units   

This course will increase the students’ knowledge of the theoretical aspects of leadership and of administrative roles within the church. Secular and Christian ideas of leadership are examined and applied to Christian education in the local church.   

UBUS - 304 Introduction to Marketing – 3 units      

This course introduces the participant to concepts, principles, and theories of marketing. Also examined will be an overview of how the marketing process can be used by management to make sound business and marketing decisions.     

UBUS - 426 Ministry Development – 3 units   

This course will help the student gain a clear understanding of God’s purpose, showing how vision differs from mission and identifying characteristics of godly insights and practical steps in discovering God’s vision for one’s life, workplace or ministry. The student will be given a game plan to stay focused, to effectively engage in the culture, manage financial resources and meet the never-ending needs of people in order to develop ministry. The student will be given a proven five-part strategy that will enable him/her and his/her ministry to grow in key areas.   

UBUS - 435 Essential Team Interaction (Methods & Tools) – 3 units      

This course examines the dynamics of teams, how these dynamics change as team size changes, and the effect of leadership on the operation and organization of the team. It presents several tools for enhancing team interaction, building internal communication, and maximizing the potential of a team to achieve its purpose and goals.   

UBUS - 441Business Ethics – 3 units     

This course deals with the ethical issues surrounding business operations, negotiation, purchasing, selling and interoffice personnel issues. The course will use case studies and other materials to examine a number of ethical issues that concern the business world, including economic justice, corporate responsibility, employee-employer obligations, consumers and advertising, and the environment.   


UBUS - 455 Financial Management – 3 units      

This course examines the elements of money, finance and economics with a view toward sound and ethical management practices. Topics included are wealth, poverty, giving, tithing and the difference between the ethical and unethical use of money.   

UBUS - 470 Organizational Behavior – 3 units      

This is a course on reality-based organizational behavior, explaining and predicting behavior in organizations in three levels: the individual, group and organization. Extensive examples of case applications and skill-building modules are explored. The student will be introduced to values, attitudes, job satisfaction, personality and emotions, perception and individual decision-making basic motivation concepts, understanding work teams, basic approaches to leadership, conflict and negotiations, organizational change and stress management.  

UPTH - 207 Marketplace Ministry – 3 units

This course provides an extensive survey into the various means available to properly and successfully develop awareness in a community of a church’s ministry programs and services, to include such topics as: the well-designed church bulletin to mass media opportunities as promotional avenues.

UPTH - 408 Conflict Management – 3 units      

This course will provide the student with an understanding of the cause and effect that lead to resolutions for both industrial and group conflict.

UPTH - 412 Mentoring and Coaching – 3 units      

This course explores the full range of the mentoring process from a Biblical, historical and individual perspective. Emphasis is placed on studying examples of Biblical partnership and mentoring relationships.

UHIS - 301 Survey of Civilization – 3 units  

This course provides an overview of some of the great events and people in history, awareness of the people and events that still affect today’s cultures and society, and how civilizations differ, yet at the same time, how they are related.
